Barbados has been ranked third in the Americas region and 27th in the world overall in the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) compiled by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum.
The index, which was first used seven years ago, aims to measure the factors and policies that make it attractive to develop the travel and tourism sector in different countries.
Switzerland continues to led the rankings, performing well on almost all aspects of the Index, with its infrastructure, especially ground transportation, being rated among the best in the world.
Barbados has moved up one place since the last assessment of 140 economies worldwide two years ago.
“Barbados comes in 2nd overall (behind the United States) for the country’s affinity for Travel & Tourism, with a positive attitude toward tourists and toward the value of tourism in the country, although it does receive a middling score for the degree of customer orientation (64th),” said the 517-page report released this week.
