Captain Damien Applewhaite doesn’t see why top tennis players Darian King and Haydn Lewis should be forced to contest the Top 8 Invitational considering he’s already guaranteed their spots on the Davis Cup squad.
Applewhaite made the strong assertion in response to criticisms of both men declining invites to the recently concluded Davis Cup trials.
“As a coach looking at them as the only professional players we have I can safely say their games are a clear step above everyone else in Barbados and they are the only ones we have who can win matches at the Group I and Group II levels,” reasoned the non-playing captain. (JM)
