‘No bus fare hike’

Government is not considering an increase in bus fares, but Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley is looking for other ways to generate income for the cash-short Transport Board.
“Nah, we are not thinking about that [increase in fares] at all, that is not on the cards,” said Lashley, when asked about an increase in bus fares.
Other public service vehicle operators have raised recently the possibility of a fare increase because of rising costs.
The minister was, however, upbeat about the “good returns” that came the way of the Transport Board following the Digicel Reggae Festival last weekend.
“We had an excellent weekend I must say. We had a meeting yesterday [Tuesday] with the Transport Board and actually we had a good weekend particularly with the Reggae Festival. We got some good returns. So I really want to thank the promoters for giving us that opportunity and certainly we are now looking at Top Gear Festival [later this month] in terms of the public transportation [park and ride],” Lashley told the DAILY?NATION as he spoke yesterday on the sidelines of a site visit of the Adopt-a-Kilometre Project on the ABC Highway.
