RETIRED POLITICIAN and “institutional stalwart” Sir Henry Forde, retired Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Barbados Rufus Brome, and former diplomat and cricket administrator Julian Hunte have been awarded honorary doctorates by the University of the West Indies (UWI).
The three were conferred the degrees earlier today during the UWI Cave Hill Campus morning graduation ceremony at the Wildey Gymnasium.
Delivering the graduation address shortly after being honoured, Sir Henry said there was a need for more students to focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics to meet the demands of the economy.
However, he stressed that such a focus did not mean the humanities should be ignored.
The award of first degrees, diplomas and certificates is now in progress and will be followed by the valedictory address by Marissa Murdock.
She has obtained a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology with Earth Sciences with Ecology. (DP)
