Heat on B’s

THE FIRE MAY BE OUT, but the health problems remain for residents of St Thomas who live near the controversial B’s Recycling Plant.
Those residents hit the steps of the Supreme Court yesterday, filing an injunction to make their community environmentally safe, by demanding that the island’s main recycling plant be shut down.
In addition, they are suing owner and operator of the plant Paul Bynoe for negligence. Efforts to reach Bynoe yesterday were unsuccessful.
The Minister of Home Affairs (Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite), the Minister of the Environment (Dr Denis Lowe), the Minister of Labour (Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo) and the Chief Town Planner (Mark Cummins) have also been named in the negligence suit, with the residents claiming the plant was allowed to remain open without official permission from the Town Planning Department.
