Dissatisfied with the way the retrenchment process is being conducted, general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Roslyn Smith, wants to have a meeting with Prime Minister Mia Mottley.

Speaking on Starcom Network on Monday, Smith said there were still questions to be answered, including the number of people who were sent home. She wants the NUPW to meet with Mottley and her advisory team from the Ministry of Finance.

About 1 500 people were scheduled to be laid off as part of the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme, which has been approved by the International Monetary Fund.

The NUPW is the largest public sector union and, like the Barbados Workers’ Union, has insisted on the last in, first out method. (SAT)
