No shortage, but eggs on the way

There is no shortage of eggs this Christmas season, but the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) has applied to import a container to ensure the tourist industry is not affected early next year.

Last December, the BAS imported six containers, more than 1.9 million eggs, to make up the shortfall of local suppliers. A container holds 324 000 eggs.

“At this point in time, there is no shortage, what we are anticipating, really, is the January tourist season when the cruise ships come in that we can satisfy that. We did have a problem last year and we are trying to make sure there is no problem with the tourist season next year,” BAS CEO James Paul said.

Last December, Star Chick Ltd imported a container to satisfy both locals and visitors, but that has not been necessary this year. (SAT)
