Polo showdown today

The?stage is set for a thrilling conclusion of the Barbados versus England three-day polo tournament today at the Lion Castle Polo Grounds in St Thomas.
After losing the first two games of the tournament on Tuesday, Barbados rebounded in grand style with a crushing 7-41/2 goal victory on Thursday at the same venue.
England started with a half-goal advantage but simply had no answer for the Scotia Bank-sponsored Barbados team of Vicki Gonzalez, Louis Clerici, Adam Deane and Marc Atwell.
There were two goals each from Deane, Atwell and Clerici and one from Gonzalez in the fourth chukka. C.B. Scherer scored all four goals for England.
The three-day tournament started on Tuesday.
In the first game featuring the young Colts of Barbados against the young Colts of England, Barbados narrowly lost 1 to 2 1/2, while in the feature match, Barbados went under again 2-3.
Scherer scored all three goals for England while Philip Atwell scored both goals for Barbados.
Today’s final will see two additional games being played before the grand finale at 4:30 p.m.
The day’ action will begin with the Scotia Bank Rotary West Polo Challenge exhibition match Chukkas For Charity at 2:30 p.m.
There will be a Mardi Gras themed VIP tent where all the proceeds will be going to the Rotary West’s charitable causes. (CLH)
