LIAT’s Antigua-based ground staff who walked off the job this morning are now back at work.
The airline’s Corporate Communication’s manager Desmond Brown confirmed that the staff have returned to work following talks between the company’s management and the union which represents them.
He reported that the airline’s flight schedule was not affected by the temporary work stoppage.
Chief Executive Officer Brian Challenger said LIAT had not been notified of the issues prior to the work stoppage, noting that the union had failed to give the required seven days’ notice before embarking on industrial action.
Challenger said LIAT’s management remains committed to a fair and equitable working relationship with all employee groups. He said the present regional and international economic situation, as well as escalating fuel prices, presented severe financial challenges to LIAT and called on all employees to act in a responsible manner.
