A GOVERNMENT MINISTER says plans are extremely well advanced to establish an electronic single window (ESW) to make it easier for importers and exporters to do business.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler said yesterday that the procurement process would begin “shortly” for the necessary hardware and software which would be deployed across a number of Government agencies including the Customs and Excise Department.
The electronic single window is a component of the Barbados Competitiveness Programme which was officially launched in 2011 with US$11.8 million (BDS$23.6 million) from the Inter-American Development Bank and US$1.8 million (BDS$3.6 million) from the Government.
Sinckler said one of the key components of the programme was to increase efficiencies in trade logistics and trade facilitation. (NB)
