Blackett, Chung win Run

Jerome Blackett of the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme and visitor Nancy Chung of Canada bettered steamy conditions and over 200 competitors to grab the first spots in the 5th annual Cruise To Run Caribbean, Barbados leg at Spring Garden, yesterday morning.
Blackett lead from the time that General Manager of the National Conservation Commission, Keith Blackett fired the starting pistol on Brandons Beach with students from the Garrison Secondary, St. Leonard’s and Princess Margaret Secondary, a group of local lifeguards joining 170 visitors from Caribbean Princess in powering towards SBI to turn and head to Dacosta before returning to the Beach.
Nipping at Blackett’s heels was Christian Rock who placed second with a time of 16:17, four seconds slower than the winner.  Shamar Maynard of Princess Margaret placed third with a time of  17:07.
Chung finished with a time of 20:08 to be 16 seconds better than local Shani Adams and visitor Mary Pope who reached home in a time of  21:37.
