AA makes emergency landing

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, CMC – An American Airlines plane today made an emergency landing at the  Sangster International Airport in the tourist resort town of Montego Bay in the western parish of St James  after developing engine trouble.
The American Airlines flight was en route from Ecuador to Miami, Florida, when it encountered the problem, aviation officials here said.
Elizabeth Scotton, chief commercial officer of MBJ Airports Limited, the operators of Sangster International, said that the incident occurred shortly after 2 pm (local time) when the pilot of American Airlines flight 966 requested emergency landing citing engine difficulties.
She said the exact nature of the problem is now known but none of the 150 passengers and seven crew members had been injured as a result of the emergency landing.
The plane remains on the ground at the airport Sangster International Airport and arrangements were being made to accommodate the passengers on other American Airlines flights.
The incident comes just over a year after an American Airlines plane was damaged after overshooting the runway at the Norman Manley International Airport in the capital. (CMC)
