GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Chairman of Guyana Elections Commissions (GECOM), Dr. Steve Surujbally says the entity would be ready for the hosting of the 2011 regional and general elections by November 14. The commission has also committed to the execution of continuous registration next year, which will enable its readiness for the hosting of local government elections. Dr. Surujbally said that according to GECOM’s time table a possible date for Guyanese to go to the poll would be by mid- November, but the final decision rests in the hands of President Bharrat Jagdeo. There have been speculations that the elections would be held in mid-December. However, the head of state is expected to set a date for the elections upon receiving the final voters list from GECOM. Nomination is set to be some 30 days before the elections. Meanwhile, parliament is expected to be dissolved by late September by which time the bills to be dealt with would have been covered.
