More than 900 cannabis plants went up in smoke today after an extensive joint operation at Ashford, St John which started late Thursday evening and ended this morning.
Public Relations Officer Inspector David Welch reported earlier today that the plants, some of which were above 15 feet in height, were cultivated in three spots.
The operation involving 50 people was led by members of the Police Drug Squad. Also taking part were members of the Special Services Unit and the Barbados Defence Force.
No arrests were made and the lawmen were continuing their investigations, he reported.
“This operation is an ongoing effort to eradicate these fields of illegal drugs under cultivation. We will also continue our interdiction efforts at sea, “ Welch said, adding that people knowing about any other marijuana-growing areas should contact the police.
