St Peter has done it again.
Debra-lee Grant and Ricardo Marshall were crowned the most outstanding Parish Ambassadors at the 15th Spirit of the Nation show held at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium on Saturday night. Attendant of the year also went to St Peter’s Cherie Boyce signaling a repeat of last year’s achievements by the team from the north.
The team entered the final night with 75.97 per cent, which they achieved from their Parish Project entitled Project 911: Breathing Heritage into Our Lives. Those points combined with formal wear, talent and costumes saw St Peter toppling the competition.
The competition was fierce and riding St Peter close for second place was St George’s Ambassadors Renaldo Yarde and Anecia Farley who presented the project The Sugar Basket… The Economic Bedrock of Barbados for which they won best Parish Project, they also won the prize for The 2010 Committee of the Year. St George an obvious favourite of the crowd who cheered them on wildly they were impressive throughout the night of keen competition.
The most easterly parish of St Philip was third overall; while the best talent went to St John’s Roman Lovell who did a dramatic poem entitled Voices of Barbados.
At the end of the night St Peter was adjudged the best and if all goes well will be looking for a three-peat at next year’s Spirit of the nation show. Here are St Peter’s Ambassadors Debra-lee Grant and Ricardo Marshall receiving their prizes from Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley.
