Some West Terrace, St James residents say that attempts to destroy a large mahogany tree could ruin a scenic area that provides an excellent view of the luxurious West Coast for locals and visitors alike.
Resident Ruth Searles, who called in the WEEKEND NATION to bring public attention to the matter which she said was giving her heartache, said that the open area at the bottom of 10th Avenue West Terrace was used as a recreational spot.
However, she said that she and other residents saw a man, who also lived in the neighbourhood, driving holes in the root of the tree and they feared that it was an attempt to kill the tree and ruin what had become not only a community spot for relaxation, but also a tourist attraction.
“Here is where we come and bring our children and just look over the ridge and look at the beautiful scenery. Sometimes tourists would come and just sit down and relax and see the scenery,” said Searles. (AH)
