Charges against QEH not true, says CEO

THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL (QEH) is not purchasing supplies from overseas sources at prices higher than those charged locally.
Chief executive officer of the QEH, Dexter James, made this point yesterday morning at a Press conference in response to claims of wastage of funds and irregular procurement practices at the institution.
James said that the comments were made during debate in the House of Assembly recently.
He said the allegation that the QEH had been buying examination gloves from an overseas supplier at $12 per box of 50 when they were available locally for $6 was erroneous.
The CEO said the local gloves cost US$6, which is BDS$12. “It is unfortunate that persons would seek to confuse the public, not only with currency but also with the numeracy of the argument,” James said.
