Opposition member of Parliament Rawle Eastmond has been hospitalized after suffering more problems related to his diabetic condition.
Eastmond was treated at the Psychiatric Hospital yesterday morning and was expected to be moved to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night, according to sources close to him. However, this could not be confirmed up to press time.
Initial reports had indicated that the 58-year-old St James North MP had driven his car off the road and was found in an incoherent state in the wee hours of Tuesday.
But yesterday his brother, former radio deejay Jude The Dude Eastmond, sought to refute what he said was gossip and misinformation being spread.
“It is not as bad as it being made out,” an upset Jude told the DAILY?NATION yesterday evening after radio reports on Eastmond’s condition.
He said he went to his older brother’s assistance after he “ran onto the pavement” along Road View, St Peter.
“But he was coherent when I arrived and others assisted in getting him back to his [St James] home.”
Jude added that his blood sugar level was quite low and a decision was subsequently made to take him to the Psychiatric Hospital “for an evaluation”.
Family members, including his wife Eugene, were at his side.
A few years ago, Eastmond was also hospitalized when he became incoherent while making a contribution to a radio call-in programme.The political veteran and former Minister of Labour, who has been an MP for the past two decades, was involved in a highly contentious political battle in the recent Barbados Labour Party (BLP) nomination in St James North.
Last Saturday, he participated in a walk through St James North with his successor Edmund Hinkson, who he said was his friend.
Sources close to him said he was present at the BLP’s public meeting at Haggatt Hall, St Michael, the next day.
