The Nation Newspaper joins the world in celebrating International Women’s Day today with a look at long-time bus driver Maureen Blenman.
Blenman joined the Transport Board in 1980 and during her time there she has become the mother of three children. She said she loved her job but admitted its demands were at times stressful and tiring.
“People like to get favours all the time but you can’t always do it,” she said.
Blenman said she had no regrets about working with the Transport Board but advised any other women seeking a job there to ensure it was something they wanted to do.
“If a woman wants to get into this she has to really like it or forget [about] it,” she said.
Here, Blenman behind the wheel.
