Barbadian pioneer in road construction Keith Rayside is dead.
His wife Marquita said Rayside, who celebrated his 86th birthday on January 21, passed away quietly at “Rutland”, his Clermont Gardens, St. Michael home at 9 this morning.
Describing Rayside as “one of the most outstanding road builders in Barbados and truly a great Barbadian”, Marquita Rayside said her husband loved what he did and never stopped talking about the business he started as a teenager in Mason Hall Street over 60 years ago.
The young entrepreneur moved his simple concrete-block-making business from Mason Hall Street to Friendship Plantation in Green Hill in the 1940’s and went on to build a leading company responsible for the construction of major road projects including Highway 2A and the Bridgetown Road Safety Improvement project.
Rayside Construction Company was bought by CLICO Holdings in 2005. (GC)
