Petrol cutback

BARBADIAN MOTORISTS have been putting less fuel in their tanks, with reports of a slight decrease in purchases last year when compared to 2010.
The cutback could be caused by a combination of factors – high fuel prices, fewer vehicles being sold, reduced construction activity and the tough times in the tourist industry.
Industry-wide, there was three per cent less fuel consumption in 2011 compared to 2010 figures, according to country head of Esso’s operation in Barbados, Cally Boyea.
It was not clear what was the volume of gas and diesel used in vehicles here.
