Garrison now marked area

YOU ARE NOW entering the Barbados Garrison Historic area.
And the imposing sign at one of the original entry points is there to prove it.
Yesterday, key members on the island’s cultural and World Heritage landscape gathered at one of the best preserved entrances to the former British Garrison, at Dalkeith Road, St Michael, to unveil the first of six signs delineating places of historic interest.
Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley explained the new signs were part of UNESCO’s stipulation that there be signage at the World Heritage Site.
“The other signage would be interpretative signage and that is part of our commitment to ensure that the property which has been inscribed is clearly defined and you can get information by visiting the site,” the minister explained.
