A sombre mood enveloped the junction of Bush Hall Main Road and Civilian Road, St Michael, when family members, co-workers and friends gathered for the candlelight vigil for Alexis Edwards last Friday night.
The 29-year-old police constable lost her life on Saturday, August 18, when the vehicle she was travelling in hit the guard wall of St Hill & Sons Funeral Home.
Edwards, formerly of Pioneer Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, was remembered in a two-and-a-half-hour-long vigil organized by close friend Lisa Banfield.
Edwards’ sister Janita was pleased with the turnout that boasted a mixture of relatives, members of the Royal Barbados Police Force and friends sharing endearing sentiments on the life and deeds of the deceased.
Many a family member, including Edwards’ mother, grandparents and cousins, reflecting on the life of the departed loved one, was visibly torn.
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch said members of the force, particularly those who had worked with Edwards at the District “A” station up until her untimely death, grieved deeply for their colleague.
Welch said that from the time of the accident those officers had been identified and would continue to undergo counselling where necessary.
Sister Janita said details of the funeral were to be finalized tomorrow. (LK)
