Lavine’s best batter, Campbelle’s MVP

KINGSTOWN – Barbadian Pamela Lavine copped the award for the Best Batswoman at the West Indies Cricket Board’s Women’s 50-Over League.Lavine made the tournament’s highest score of 107 against Trinidad and Tobago to end with 176 runs at an average of 44 runs per innings.Shemaine Campbelle, the Guyana captain and all-rounder, was named the Most Valuable Player.Campbelle, a 17-year-old, right-handed batter, leg-break and googly bowler who also keeps wicket, was presented with the award at the closing ceremony at the residence of the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonzalves, yesterday.Overall, she ended the tournament with 166 runs at an average of 83. Her best score was a superb 100 not out made in the play-off match against St Lucia. She also took eight wickets at an average of 10.75 per wicket in four matches.The award for the most wickets was won by Pearl Etienne of Dominica. Etienne, a medium-pacer, did an excellent job with the new ball and ended with 13 wickets at 9.40 runs per wicket. She had best bowling figures of five for 29. Jerveena Pollocksigh of Trinidad and Tobago won the award for the Best Wicket-keeper, while Tara Louis of St Louis was the fielder with the most catches.Trinidad and Tobago played unbeaten and went on to win the title for the second consecutive year.
