The Hilda Skeene girls and boys from Grantley Prescod Memorial made the National Stadium track their own speedway today with runaway triumphs in the Jim Wedderburn Zone of the Pine Hill NAPSAC Championship.
Competing in Zone 4, sponsored by the NATION Workbook and Yearbook, Hilda Skeene took the girls crown with 198.50 points, well clear of second place Roland Edwards (165), Grantley Prescod (120), St Giles (104) and Grazettes (102.50).
The Under-13 quartet of Chelsea Quintyne, Whitney Fanfan, Drew-Ann Clarke and Daniel Nurse and Under-9 girl, Makayla Harewood were the architects queens of Hilda Skeene’s success on the track.
But Kiara Armstrong and Fanfan also logged vital wins in field events, with the former taking the Under-11 girls’ long jump and Fanfan triumphing in the Open girls’ high jump.
Grantley Prescod’s boys’ triumph was spearheaded by victor ludorum, Johnson Leriche, who also won the under-11 division with 30 points, including victories in the 100 and 200 metres. He got admirable support from Rajaj Thelius, who was second in the Under-13 division; Obi Yearwood and tiny tot Damian King as Grantley Prescod amassed 159 points. St Giles were second on 135 points, followed by Sharon Primary (122.50), Hilda Skeene (104.50) and Reynold Weekes (101).
Vauxhall showcased the fastest boy of the day in Josiah Atkins, who won the Under-13 100 metres in 13.46 seconds and ran a blistering anchor leg in the 4×100 relay win.
Sharon’s Rosette Hoyte won both the 200 metres and 400 metres among the Under-13 girls, noticeably clocking 1:04.20 in the one-lap quarter-mile, where her time was even faster than her schoolmate Shaquon Sealy, who won the Under-13 boys’ race in 1:05.24.
Grazettes’ Shontae Cole was the fastest girl on track, winning the Under-13 girls’ 100 metres in 14.10 seconds, narrowly defeating Sharon’s Toriann Alleyne (14.23), who had also won her heat.
Jaliyah Clarke of St Giles was the victrix ludorum with 30 points.
Competing in the Under-9 age group, she won the 80-metre dash in 12.47 seconds; 100-metre (15.80) and 150-metre (23.97).
