The layoffs in the public sector are “unfortunate” but are not about getting rid of anyone who was hired under the previous Democratic Labour Party (DLP) administration.

So said Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn, as he defended the job cuts against outspoken Opposition Senator Caswell Franklyn and DLP president Verla DePeiza on Starcom Network’s Sunday Brass Tacks on Sunday.

“We went through this exercise. We did not identify anybody in the process; I can give the country that assurance. So this is not a case of firing anybody that was hired by the Democratic Labour Party,” Straughn stressed. “We made sure that the process was followed with respect to last in, first out.”

But this was hotly disputed by Franklyn, who is also general secretary of the Unity Workers’ Union. (NATIONNEWS)
