Celebrity televangelist Benny Hinn’s planned miracle healing crusade has been lambasted by Baptist pastor Vincent Wood, who called it an insult.
Reverend Wood, head of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and a member of the Nominating Committee of the 37 million strong Baptist World Alliance, also wants the organisers to disclose the retainer fee for Hinn, fourth on the list of richest pastors in the world with a net worth of $42 million while Pastor T.D. Jakes is number one with a net worth of $150 million.
“Any group or alliance of churches can bring anyone they choose to Barbados but I resent and strongly opposed televangelist Benny Hinn coming to these shores if he is being brought here as the Nation story states . . . . It is an insult, very offensive and the group should apologise to every God-fearing minister of the gospel who is living a life for God and who is trying their utmost to lead this nation and its political leaders to commit their lives to Jesus Christ,” Wood said.
Last week the formation of the National Alliance of Churches and Christian Organisations (NACCO) was announced by Reverend Ferdinand Nicholls, who said it was a platform for churches to come together and address national issues amid criticism that they were not united.
