Kimberly Gittens has a Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games boxing medal but her hopes of further glory have been dashed as she will be forced to miss next month’s World Championships.

Just months after bringing home bronze from the CAC Games in Colombia, Barbados’ top female boxer will no longer contest the Women’s World Boxing Championships in India due to insufficient funds.

Barbados Boxing Association (BBA) president Richard Atwell made the disappointing announcement on Friday.

“Kimberly can’t compete at the women’s championships because of a lack of funding. It is an estimated$16 000 required for her and her coach to attend this event. You would know that with the financial constraints the country is unable to assist,” he said. (RG)
