BARBADOS WILL BE RUNNING out of lane five when they get their campaign underway at the inaugural IAAF World Relays this evening in Nassau, The Bahamas
The six-member team comprising Shane Brathwaite, Levi Cadogan, Ackeem Forde, debutant Fallon Forde, Ramon Gittens and Andrew Hinds will be competing in the men’s 4×100 metres and 4×200 metres relay.
There will be no women’s team as most of the eligible women are still at university and are not available.
The running order for the 4×200 metres, which will run off from 5:30 p.m., is Gittens, Hinds, Brathwaite and Fallon Forde.
In heat two, from lanes one to eight are Nigeria, Turks and Caicos Islands, Cayman Islands, Germany, Barbados, Kenya, United States and Japan.
In heat one are France and Virgin Islands in lanes one and two, respectively. China are in lane three and the other teams are Spain, The Bahamas, Papua New Guinea, St Kitts & Nevis and Jamaica in lane eight.
To reach tonight’s final, which will be run off at 8:16, Barbados must finish among the top three in their heat or wait to be among the next best two times.
Jamaica are still favourites to win this race, despite being without double world record holder and Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt. He is reportedly not in race fitness and was not considered for selection.
However, Jamaica have ample talent to pick from, with the likes of Yohan Blake, Warren Weir, Kemar Bailey Cole, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater all named to the team.
The IAAF World Relays get underway at 3:30 p.m. when The Bahamas will put their junior athletes on display before the world teams take to the track.
