Against the backdrop of widespread speculation about an imminent reshuffle, five senior members of the Freundel Stuart Cabinet yesterday sought to defend their own stewardship while pointing to the need for “greater engagement” with the public in what could very well be an election year.
Ministers John Boyce, Michael Lashley, Donville Inniss, Denis Kellman and Richard Sealy all agreed that 2011 was a “challenging” year economically as well as politically for the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) in office, as Boyce and Sealy led the call for more dialogue on national issues in 2012.
“We need to get out there and explain to the people what has been happening,”?Sealy, the Minister of Tourism, said. “Let them know that we have been working very hard and we have done well under the circumstances.”
With elections constitutionally due in just under a year-and-a-half, Boyce, who is second vice-president of the DLP?and Minister of Transport and Works, said the DLP was looking to get its entire machinery in swing “to be ready whenever the Prime Minister calls elections”. (JS/TS/AC)
