Readers today are talking about the island’s fight to save direct flights coming out of New York’s John F. Kennedy airport because of falling tourism passenger numbers. This was revealed yesterday by Opposition Leader Mia Mottley. Several of our online readers weighed in on this issue.
Christopher Parra: Barbados is doing nothing to protect its primary source of income…tourism. Other Caribbean islands are excelling and enhancing their tourism product and we are watching our numbers dwindle. This island needs a serious overhaul because there is inefficiency, bad service, dirty beaches and no proper plan of action in place with the existing government.
Nik Nak: If flight prices were reasonable, customer service better and places to go, as the gap is failing disgustingly, then tourist would want to go to barbados. The service on barbados has been slipping year apron year to the point where people are now choosing to not go there anymore.
Raymond Jones: As a shareholder, I would welcome this move if it lowers the operating cost of the airline. Three is nothing special about Barbados; the cost of living and operating a business in Barbados is simply too high. That Dallas to Barbados flight, needed to be cancel longtime to expensive and usually not full, no way AA is making a profit on that route.
Angela Sandra Paul: If the flights were not so expensive more people would be travelling. Does she know how expensive flights were to come to Barbados in July from JFK. The election is over so stop it. These two parties have to come together and work for the country as they were elected to do.
