PROTRACTED NEGOTIATIONS between the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) and the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), which have stalled the planned development of several southern residential and commercial areas, may soon be resolved.
Projects in Christ Church and St Philip have been held up over water supply installation issues.
BWA chairman Dr Atlee Brathwaite acknowledged yesterday that the talks with union and financing of the project had been the main stumbling blocks to progress of the project from the BWA’s side.
“We are really discussing the arrangements with the union at the moment,” he said. “It will be a private sector/public sector arrangement. Ionics will be providing financing and the Water Authority doing the connections.”
Ionics is the private sector firm involved. (ES)
