Hudson?Griffith has urged the people of St John to place their confidence in him, as they did Errol Barrow, and he will not let them down.
Griffith, who will be carrying the flag for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) in the forthcoming by-election in St John, made this call at a meeting in Gall Hill last night before an audience that included former Cabinet Ministers Jerome Walcott, Cynthia Forde and Gline Clarke.
“You all did not know Errol Barrow and you gave him a chance. Barrow told you all to give thim three years. I?am saying give me these two years and let me earn the other five. If I ever get these two years, the Democratic Labour Party can kiss this seat goodbye. Because what the Barbados Labour Party and I will do with St John, will be like none other.”
Barrow, this country’s first Prime Minister, held the seat for 29 years, from 1958 untill his passing in 1987.
Griffith said the profile of St John had to change.
“We can no longer have a situation where people have to go to Six Roads to get a bottle of gas, because they can’t get it in St John. People of St John have to travel outside of the parish to make bill payments at Sure Pay. Not in this time.
“People have to stop wearing two pairs of shoes because the roads need fixing. Not in this time. This can’t work. The Democratic Labour Party has lost the right to represent St John.”
Griffith, 45, a contractor, spoke of the need to raise the commercial profle of the parish. (MK)
