A hat-trick by Henderson Richards powered St Michael West Central to a 3-2 victory over Christ Church West Central when the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic continued on Wednesday night.
In the feature match before a large crowd at Briar Hall in Christ Church, which included Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley, the lanky Richards turned back the challenge from the West Central footballers, whose goals were scored by Mario Farrell and Tremayne Ramsey.
In the first game, Christ Church West recorded their first triumph, beating St Michael Central 3-1, courtesy goals by Terry Butcher, John Griffith and Timothy Fay, while Dario Grosvenor netted for the losers.
Over at Haynesville, Minister of Health Donville Inniss and Barbados Labour Party candidate Sandra Husbands were on hand to see St James South come from behind to defeat St George South 3-1.
Simon Blades gave St George South the lead in the 32nd minute but 17-year-old Barbados striker Diquan Adamson equalized for St James South in the 71st minute.
Marcus Best then sent the St James spectators home with smiles on their faces, scoring in the 84th and 86th minutes.
Earlier, Minister of Trade, Commerce and Industry, Senator Haynesley Benn, watched as St Peter edged St Michael North 2-1 through goals by Dale Benn and Damien Edwards. Ron Pile scored for the losers.
The competition continues tonight with four matches.
At Eden Lodge, St Michael South East oppose St Peter at 6 p.m., while St Michael North play St George North in the nightcap game at 8 p.m.
At Belleplaine, St Lucy and St James North battle at 6 p.m., and St Andrew meet St George South at 8 p.m.
