WINIFRED ODESSA “Winnie” Ince made sure no one would forget her 100th birthday.
There was hardly room to stand today as friends and family descended on the centenarian at her small Maxwell Hill, Christ Church, all with the story of how Ince constantly reminded them of her big day.
“She always used to speak of her birthday. We were here in January and Winnie reminded us again so here we are today to toast her and give her communion,” said elder of the Silver Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church, Rudolph Best, who was a part of group of church member who came to see Ince.
The devout Adventist was known to go walking and swimming even in her 90’s but is now no longer strong enough to do so. Family flew in from England, Canada and the United States to share in the special occasion.
Sheila Jones takes care of Ince, something she said was a pleasure as “I love her and she loves me too”.
As for Ince herself, she said she felt “fairly good” and was happy to reach 100. She also had advice for youth.
“Fear God and keep to yourself and you will live as long as me. God is good and He will take care of us, even until we get old,” she said.
Ince is the last surviving sibling of 14 – ten girls and four boys. She had no children. (CA)
