Welch: Be on the lookout

SECURITY FOR THIS year’s edition of the Contact Pork Limes is expected to be “proper”, but patrons are still being advisedto look out for theirown personal safety.
Public relations officer of the Royal Barbados Police Force, Inspector David Welch, said that while the force hada mandate to provide security, patrons hada role to play.
In asking people to be mindful of their personal safety when attending the Pork Limes and other Crop Over events, Welch said members of the public should be careful with their jewellery and valuables. He added that they should properly secure their vehicles and be conscious of wherethey parked.
The lawman confirmed that police would patrolin and around The City during major activities there. He also encouraged promoters to play their part by planning events with security in mind and ensuring that adequate lighting was in place.
Speaking ahead of the first of ten limes at the new Fort Willoughby location this evening,Lisa Gale, executive director of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), which has partneredwith the Contact Band this year, said efforts to secure patrons and the venue had been redoubled.
