400 more to do CEE

The number of students sitting next year’s Common Entrance Examination (CEE) is expected to rise by more than 400 over this year’s.  
For this reason Minister of Education Ronald Jones is calling on principals to be as accommodating as possible to students, given the capacity issues some secondary schools were already experiencing.
Delivering the feature address at Queen’s College speech day and prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday evening, Jones said that room had to be found for all students.
“We might have to ask for possibly two more years of a little elasticity in the accommodation of the young people of Barbados.”
Jones said that ideally the number of students at a school would be 800, but that it might be another two to two and a half years before another secondary school could be built, “even though the funding and location have been identified”.
The minister, urging the young men to rise to their true potential, said he eagerly looked forward to the results of the single-sex class study being conducted at the school.
Jones hoped that at the end of the initial three years, the boys in the single-sex class would not only become highly competitive, but could stand alongside the positive and assertive young women of the school.
