POLITICAL SCIENTIST Dr George Belle yesterday described as “extremely reckless political behaviour” a move by 11 Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Members of Parliament against Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
Belle, who is dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus, also said that the situation demanded a firm response from the Prime Minister, who he suggested needed to either reshuffle his Cabinet immediately or fire some of the perceived rebel ministers in his team.
“If you can confront a leader in a way that is apparently the case, then there is a severe fracture and it now depends on the leader to rearrange power within the organization to such an extent that it can be held together,” Belle told the DAILY NATION.
The SUNDAY?SUN broke the news of a letter dispatched by the dissatisfied DLP parliamentarians to Stuart last Saturday demanding an “urgent audience” with him to discuss matters of “grave concern” pertaining to his leadership and “to chart a path forward for the retention of our party in Government”.
