Brewster sails off with big one

Leisl Brewster sailed away with the coveted Dr A. W. Trieloff Memorial Trophy when the National Dinghy Championships took place recently.
Brewster, who has represented Barbados at the Caribbean Dinghy Championships every year since 2008, copped the award which is given to the junior sailor who shows the most improvement along with the best attitude and all-round sportsmanship.
After five weeks and 25 races, Jason Tindale was crowned the winner of the the laser standard class, just ahead of Charlie Gloumeau and Rodney Reader in third.
The laser radial class was won convincingly by Amy Cox, with Jaime Ward placing second and James Austin third.
The laser 4.7 Class, a stepping stone for those young sailors coming out of the Optimist Class, was won by Scott Gittens with Brewster only five points behind in second.
The exciting two-man Topper Tres Class was won by Xavier Mansour on helm and Annabel Cox as crew.
Second place overall went to Dominic Austin and Sebastian Mansour, who traded helming and crew positions throughout the championships, while Alec Drayton and Jonathan Kirton took third place.
Anish Persaud and Drew Gill were also winners, capturing the Optimist Dinghy Class and Optimist Green Fleet category respectively. (RB)
