NCF forces change to lyrics

FIVE CALYPSONIANS have been censored and must change some of their lyrics for Friday night’s Pic-O-De-Crop Semi-finals at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
Sean Apache Carter, William Smokey Burke, Daniel Jimmy Dan Borman, Ronnie De Announcer Clarke and reserve William Classic Waithe have been advised by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) to make changes to seven of their ten songs; failing which they will not be allowed to take part in the Semis.
NCF corporate communications specialist Wayne Simmons said yesterday the decision was in keeping with Pic-O-De-Crop rules, particularly where the NCF’s legal team considered lyrics defamatory or not within the bounds of good taste.
Apache, the lone semi-finalist from the Experience tent, has to make the most substantial change: six lines of his Pirates Of The Caribbean and one from Tell Them. (CMC)
