An upgrade was promised, and the organisers of the upcoming Barbados Music Awards (BMA) and Caribfest have delivered.
Grammy winner Deniece Williams has been switched for Grammy winner Faith Evans, in response to the growing contemporary patronage for the festival.
The first lady of R&B, Faith Evans, is the widow of the Notorious B.I.G. She is known for her multiple smash hits, including I’ll Be Missing You (with P. Diddy and 112), All Night Long, Heartbreak Hotel (with Whitney Houston and Kelly Price) and Love Like This, all of which went to No. 1 on various Billboard charts.
“All told, she is one of the biggest artistes we have ever booked for the BMAs, based on the fact that she has sold millions of album and singles worldwide (Missing You sold over nine million units globally, and is but one of her smash hits), and has won numerous awards, including two Lady Of Soul Awards, two Soul Train Awards, one Grammy Award and four MTV Awards,” Ronnie Morris, the event’s producer and director said.
Her most recent album – Something About Faith – debuted this month in the Top 40 of the Billboard album chart, as testimony to her relevance in the current music industry. She also received a 2011 Grammy nomination for her single Gone Already. Her hit singles are also immediately recognizable to the youth and the more mature audience alike.
“She also has a very strong connection with the youth and the more mature demographic all at the same time, which is what we were targeting,” said Morris.
