CONSUMERS have been told to be on the lookout for expired goods.
The strong word of caution came yesterday from Minister of Commerce and Trade Senator Haynesley Benn, who acknowledged that “there can be some times when exporters from regional and extraregional sources want to get rid of a product and they can offload them on an unsuspecting Third World country”.
“We have to be very vigilant in this country,” he told the MIDWEEK?NATION?in an interview following his opening address at a two-day regional training seminar at the CSME Unit at the Tom Adams Financial Centre.
The meeting is focused on an initiative known as CARICOM’s Rapid Exchange System (CARREX) For Dangerous Goods, which seeks to prevent entry into the market, or swift removal if they do, of non-food, non-pharmaceutical items that have been proven to pose serious risk to health and safety. (DP)
