Consumer bill likely by yearend

MODEL LEGISLATION aimed at protecting the welfare and health of consumers all across the region could be ready in a matter of months, officials at the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Unit have revealed.
Specialist in free movement of skills/labour, Steven MacAndrew, said the bill was discussed last week by senior legal officers and CARICOM’s Legal Affairs Committee (LAC) could sign off on it by the end of the year.
He was speaking at the start of a two-day seminar to train regional participants on CARICOM’s Rapid Exchange system (CARREX) for Dangerous Goods, one of the other initiatives aimed at improving the protection of consumers.
Anieta Lewis, Specialist, Labour and Consumers (Stakeholders) at the Barbadian-based CSME Unit, later told the MIDWEEK NATION that there were a few matters that needed tidying up. (DP)
