IT WAS A CLASH of economic spokesmen yesterday as Government and the Opposition used different platforms to report on the state of the economy and the way forward.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler hosted a Press conference, while Barbados Labour Party Leader Owen Arthur addressed party members and supporters on the final day of the 73rd annual conference.
Sinckler spoke of improvement in the country’s economic performance, with some growth being recorded, revenues rising and Government expenditures coming down.
He said the country’s foreign exchange reserves remained at a reasonably comfortable level at 18 to 19 weeks of imports and should end the year at that level.
Arthur, however, painted a picture of an economy still in deep trouble and headed for disaster unless Government changed its policies. He accused Government of wasting money. (TY)
