Hard life

One year ago today, Tropical Storm Tomas passed through Barbados and left a trail of destruction in its wake. It was a day that Iris Bryant and many more Barbadians whose homes were destroyed would never forget.
Bryant, of South District, St George, still has remnants of that day – her damaged furnishings – stored on the spot where a shop she was building used to be before it was destroyed along with her home when a huge plum tree crashed through her roof.
Today she and her family are still struggling to restore their home even though it was repaired by a Government-hired contractor.
Bryant said the work was so poorly done and the material so inferior that her daughter had to save up money so they could get a loan from a credit union to redo all of the work on the house.
