TAXI DRIVERS ARE asking the local tourism business authorities to keep Barbados’ top scenic spot open every day and major stores open for the Christmas season, since their closure on Christmas Day caused a major loss of foreign exchange.
Stressing that Harrison’s Cave in St Thomas was “the No. 1 sightseeing spot on the island”, president of the Bridgetown Taxi Association Philip “Foff” Garner said the 5 000 or so cruise ship visitors who arrived in the island had very little to do on Christmas Day.
“The Caves were not open so the authorities, I believe, should look into monitoring the arrival of cruise ships during these major holidays. The Caves are the No.1 spot in the island and they were closed – that shouldn’t happen!” Garner told the DAILY NATION.
“When cruise liners come in on Christmas Day, the authorities should communicate with store owners as well and bring out skeleton staff,” he said.
