Ottis Gibson is about to start his “second over” as coach of the West Indies cricket team.
Amidst speculation that the 43-year-old Barbadian was linked to a job as director of cricket at English county Warwickshire, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced yesterday that Gibson had signed a new three-year contract to continue as head coach of the Caribbean side.
“I enjoy being involved in West Indies cricket and it is something I’m very excited about considering what we have achieved – especially in the last year – beating New Zealand at home in all three formats and winning the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Sri Lanka,” Gibson said.
“This confirms that we are making progress, and I am happy to continue with the team for the next three years as we look to take West Indies cricket forward.”
The announcement by the WICB that Gibson will continue as coach until 2016 also follows a SUNDAY SUN story that reported the WICB was moving swiftly to offer him a new and improved contract following reports that he had other offers on the table, including possible jobs in Australia and Bangladesh.
