Stop the paper passing and use the technology available to improve efficiency!
The admonishment was given to the Public Service by Senator Dr Esther Byer Suckoo as she moved the Second Reading of the Electronic Transactions (Amendment) Bill in the Senate earlier today.
She said there was too much “paper-passing” in the public service and urged the use of the available technology to improve efficiency and output. Government was spending the money on IT (Information Technology), she said, but this had not yet translated into improvement of the way business was conducted.
Byer Suckoo was critical of the existing situation in government offices where electronic documents could not be accepted and she called on the service to make a paradigm shift. (GC)
