Taser call

THE?“ACCIDENTAL” shooting death of a bystander by the police has prompted a magistrate to recommend the use of Taser guns by the Royal Barbados Police Force.
Coroner Faith Marshall-Harris has ruled the 2009 death of Hugh Austin Springer an accidental shooting in police action.
Springer, 58, was shot in the head on September 6, 2009 – as soon as he disembarked from a route taxi van in the Nursery Drive Terminal – by Police Constable 1687 Fabian Audain, who was carrying a Glock gun.
The police was responding to reports of a violent fracas in the terminal, a scene which the coroner said resembled the “Wild West”. (MB)
