UCAL CASH

EMPLOYEES of United Commercial Autoworks Limited (UCAL) had reason to smile yesterday after receiving a $2 million cheque from Government.
As a result, planned protest action by workers of the company that repairs buses for the state-owned Transport Board has been called off as they await the receipt of outstanding wages.
However, although relieved by the latest development, some UCAL workers described the money as a mere teardrop and hoped that more payments would follow to erase an $18.4 million debt owed by the Transport Board.
“We feel pretty good about the payment and the guys can now carry out their work and do a good job, since we were working under a lot of stress,” Richard Newton told the DAILY NATION yesterday.
